Hair Growth Cycle

Hair grows in cycles.  Once the papilla (bulb) has been destroyed, the hair is gone forever. However certain conditions cause new hair growth. Ideally, the Electrologist’s goal is to destroy the hair in the optimum growing phase. Hair ultimately grows, rests (transitions between), and then sheds.

The Anagen –  phase (growing phase) is when the hair is actively growing.  The anagen phase may last 20 to 45 days.

The Catagen –  phase (transition phase).  It is in this phase, that the hair is preparing to be shed. Hair growth stops, the hair sheath shrinks and attaches to the root of the hair. This phase may last 2 to 3 weeks.

The Telogen –  phase (resting phase).  There is no hair growth in this phase.  This is when the hair is waiting to regenerate from the hair follicle. It is at the end of this phase, a new hair begins to grow from the hair follicle and causes the old hair to be shed.  Removing a hair in this phase will display a hard, dry white substance at the root, called keratin.

The Hair Growth Cycle Is A Repeating Process

Each hair is in a different stage of growth at different times, hence the variation for hair removal schedules.  Once the papilla (bulb) is destroyed fully, the hair will no longer regenerate and permanent hair removal has been  achieved.

Electrolysis is the only permanent removal of unwanted or superfluous hair growth. Electrolysis is the only medically approved method of removing hair permanently, for all types of hair. Electrolysis has been safely and successfully practiced since 1875.

Our purpose is to destroy the hair follicle (permanently) without damaging or altering the texture and appearance of the skin.

A single use sterile disposable needle is gently inserted into the hair follicle. A tiny amount of current is emitted to destroy the source of hair growth. Expect to see the hair becoming finer, diminishing and finally disappearing over a period of time with regular treatments.
